Evening classes - Coding for Intermediate Programmers. This offering is the natural next step for those students who have successfully completed the "Introduction to Coding for Beginners" course (or equivalent).
For kids between the ages of 9 - 12.

Course Information

Introduction to Coding for Beginners

This course is comprised of:

• Four 2.5 hour classes
• The creation of a SCRATCH account credentials (if required)
• Validated login and access to SCRATCH for the student (if required)
• An introduction to the SCRATCH Interactive Development Environment (IDE)
• The first 45 minutes to 60 minutes of each lesson will be instruction and review of previously discussed topics. The instruction covers the introduction to basic computer programming concepts that apply across all programming languages.

Student Prerequisites and Requirements:

• Students must be between the ages of 9 - 12 years old
• No previous Coding or computer programming exposure is required
• Students must bring their own Device in the form of a WiFi enabled laptop or Chromebook that contains a screen, mouse, and keyboard.

Intermediate Coding

This course is comprised of:

• Four 2.5 hour classes
• The creation of a SCRATCH account credentials (if required)
• Validated login and access to SCRATCH for the student (if required)
• An introduction to the SCRATCH Interactive Development Environment (IDE)
• The 45 minutes to 60 minutes of each lesson will be instruction and review of previously discussed topics
The instruction involves a continuation / expansion of the computer programming concepts taught in the "Introduction to Coding for Beginners" course and the introduction of more advanced programming concepts that apply across languages but as demonstrated using SCRATCH

Student Prerequisites and Requirements:

• Students must have successfully completed "Introduction to Coding for Beginners" or equivalent
• Students must be between the ages of 9 - 12 years old
• Students must bring their own Device in the form of a WiFi enabled laptop or Chromebook that contains a screen, mouse, and keyboard.

Collingwood Evening Classes are limited to 15 participants. At this time, payments can be made via e-Transfer or personal cheque made out to "Harmony Information Processing Solutions Inc.".

Instructor Requirements

Thinking of bringing a "Power of Coding" event to your school or institution, contact us to get a custom detailed proposal. Every facility hosting a "Power of Coding" event must have:

• A working projector or TV monitor that can connect to a SVGA or HDMI capable laptop. If unavailable, please provide the instructor with the connectivity type so the appropriate adapter(s) may be purchased in advance.
• Working speakers that can connect to a laptop external audio port or the projector (if unavailable instructor can provide).
• A screen or white board to project the presentation on.
• An additional whiteboard, chalkboard or flip chart (white board preferred).
• Additionally it is normal practice for the instructor to take photos and videos to record parts of the session(s) for quality improvements and for use on “Power of Coding” public pages such as website or social media. The registration form contains a section for sign-off on participant image usage.
